It's Revolutionary! Event and Exhibit -- Secretly and Covertly: Cannon Cast in Sharon MA (07/23/2026)

Celebrate the Semiquincentennial of the Declaration of Independence and the founding of the United States by hearing about the commonly known as well as the untold and unexplored story of Sharon's Stoughtonham Furnace that produced cannon and cannonballs for the Revolution. The talk presents its technical details (location, design, manufacturing process), its history (when, why, and by whom it was built and run, its impact on the Revolutionary War and the ultimate fate of the forge and its operators), and what was learned through an archeological dig in the 1980s.

It will include a presentation and discussion as well as a chance to view related exhibits and light refreshments. There will also be time for a creative activity -- an “in studio opportunity” to create items for the “Reflections on the Revolution: A Call to All” Exhibition at 16 High Street in December. This show will display the works of those who have chosen to express, in their preferred medium, their views of the Revolutionary events and figures. We are seeking visual art, photography, poetry, prose, music, videography, crafts, or any combination of these or other expressive techniques. Contributor's work will be documented and digitally preserved for the benefit of future historians and history lovers.
