The Sharon Historical Society and Sharon History has been in the news of late!

On May 13, 2025 Sharon TV’s Veronica Wiseman viewed the Many Families Many Stories exhibit and interviewed many of the individuals who contributed their stories and family artifacts. She used the material to create an episode of her “Wise Friends” show that can be seen here:

The Many Families Many Stories Exhibit was partially funded by the Sharon Cultural Council and has been extended until Sunday June 8, 2025. It can be viewed during normal open hours: Friday 2-4, Saturday 1-4, and Sunday 3-5.

On May 21 WBZ’s Chaiel Schaffel interviewed Sharon Historical Society member and Deborah Sampson expert Steve Connolly for a story he was doing in recognition of the upcoming May 23 Deborah Sampson Day. You can hear the on-air story and read the full version of the report here:

The written story references the transfer of the Deborah Sampson Statue from the old Sharon Library to its new home at the new library. The move occurred on May 5^th, in time for the new library’s May 19^th Grand Opening. That video can be seen here:

Finally, on May 23, 2025, Governor Maura Healey and Lieutenant Governor Kimberly Driscoll “re -proclaimed” May 23rd as Deborah Sam(p) son Day for the State of Massachusetts as part of the MA250 Celebration. She then gave the proclamation to Sharon Representative Ted Phillips, so he could present it to the Sharon Historical Society. Sharon, It's Naturally Beautiful April 2025 Exhibit and Earth Day Presentation at Sharon Historical Society

The Sharon Historical Society (16 High Street Sharon, MA) is pleased to announce its current Exhibit on display through April: Sharon, It's Naturally Beautiful. The exhibit celebrates people and events behind the creation of the Moose Hill Wildlife Sanctuary, Massachusetts' first and largest Audubon Wildlife Sanctuary. The Exhibit will be on display through April.

Come and view the Exhibit and peruse the Sharon-themed maps, posters, books, postcards, notecards, memorial coins, patches, key chains, bookmarks, totebags and historical society clothing and mugs, as well as old-fashioned toys and penny candy on sale at the store.

Fridays: 2 pm - 4 pm

Saturdays: 1 pm - 4 pm

Sundays: 3 pm - 5 pm

The April Exhibit will be complemented by an Earth Day program on Tuesday April 22, 2025 at 7:00 pm on the Fauna of Sharon. Sharon Historical Society Board Member Paul Lauenstein will be presenting a photographic essay on the animals that help make Sharon "Naturally Beautiful". The presentation is free to all and should be a fitting celebration of Sharon and of the importance of Earth Day.

Everyone Likes a Good Story What’s yours?

The Sharon Historical Society is now collecting family stories for a special exhibition at 16 High St., Sharon. The exhibition, Many Families, Many Stories, will be viewable during the month of May with an opening reception from 1 to 5 on Sunday, May 4^th. The reception will give visitors the opportunity to share family stories. And the stories submitted so far are incredible: a shipwreck, a witch trial, overcoming persecution, breaking barriers, plus the way that families have shared traditions that celebrate the joys of living.

To be part of the exhibit, Sharon residents present, or past are being asked to either loan an object that illustrates their family story, along with a brief description of its meaning, or submit photographs of a traditional family activity or object, again with a brief description. We'd like to have submissions as soon as possible to give us time to assemble the exhibit, which is being curated by local historian and educator Claire Forman. Deborah Sampson stamp campaign

In recognition of the upcoming Semiquincentennial (250th anniversary) of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, please support the recognition of Deborah Sampson's role in the Revolutionary War. The Board of Directors of the Sharon Historical Society, Inc. has voted unanimously to support the campaign to honor Deborah Sampson (also spelled SAMSON) by issuing a Deborah Sampson Forever Stamp.
